The Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets is proud to announce that, barring weather or operational factors, the 48th Flying Training Squadron of the 14th Flying Training Wing from Columbus Air Force base, MS, will conduct a military aircraft flyover on Saturday, November 21st, 2009 during the pre-game show before the Virginia Tech vs North Carolina State game. The flyover will consist of two T-1A Jayhawk twin-engine advanced training aircraft and their flyover will be timed to coincide with the end of the National Anthem.
The T-1A Jayhawk is a medium-range, twin-engine jet trainer used in the advanced phase of specialized undergraduate pilot training for students selected to fly airlift or tanker aircraft. It is also used to support navigator training for the U.S. Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps and international services.
The aircraft will be flown by four crewmen, three of whom are graduates of Virginia Tech: flying the lead jet will be Colonel George Ross, VT’84 in honor of this weekend’s 25th Reunion for the Class of 1984. Also in the formation are Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets graduates Captain Marty Slovinsky ‘00 and Captain Tremayne Godbee ’02.
